1. Who we are

Hyestart is a non-profit association under Swiss law (art. 60 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code), founded in 2016 and headquartered in Geneva.

Hyestart is the data controller for personal data collected through www.hyestart.org.

2. Our commitment

Hyestart is a human rights organisation. Respect for privacy is part of the very values we defend. We collect the minimum data necessary, never sell it, and never share it for commercial purposes.

3. What data we collect

Data you provide voluntarily:

  • Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message.

  • Newsletter sign-up: your email address.

  • Donations: donations are processed by our external provider RaiseNow. Payment data does not pass through our website and is not stored by Hyestart.

Data collected automatically:

When you browse our website, technical data is recorded: IP address (anonymised), browser type, pages visited, time spent, and referring website. This data is aggregated and does not identify you personally.

4. Why we use it

We process your data solely to:

  • respond to your messages and enquiries;

  • send you our newsletter, if you have consented to receive it;

  • understand how our website is used and improve our content;

  • comply with our legal obligations.

We do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not carry out profiling.

5. Cookies and analytics

Our website uses technical cookies necessary for its operation, as well as analytics tools.

Google Analytics 4: we use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used (number of visitors, most-read pages, traffic sources). IP addresses are anonymised. You can opt out by installing the browser add-on provided by Google, or by declining analytics cookies via the consent banner.

Google Ads: as a participant in the Google Ad Grants programme, which provides non-profit organisations with an advertising budget, cookies may be used to measure the effectiveness of our advertisements (for example, whether a visit originated from an ad).

Wix: our website is hosted by Wix, which sets technical cookies essential to its operation.

You can configure your browser at any time to block or delete cookies. Declining non-essential cookies does not affect your access to the site.

6. Who we share data with

We never sell or rent your data.

We use technical service providers who may process certain data on our behalf:

  • Wix (website hosting)

  • Google (analytics and advertising)

  • RaiseNow (donation processing)

  • Brevo (newsletter distribution)

These providers act on our instructions and are bound by confidentiality. Some may be located outside Switzerland; in such cases, the transfer is governed by appropriate safeguards.

We may also disclose data where required to do so by law.

7. How long we keep it

  • Messages received via the contact form: three years.

  • Newsletter email addresses: until you unsubscribe.

  • Analytics data: twenty-six months maximum.

8. Your rights

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • access the data we hold about you;

  • have it corrected or erased;

  • object to its processing or request that it be restricted;

  • withdraw your consent at any time;

  • receive your data in a transferable format.

To exercise these rights, write to contact@hyestart.org. We respond within thirty days.

If you believe your rights are not being respected, you may contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) in Bern.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. Our website is secured with HTTPS. As no system is entirely infallible, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. External links

Our website links to third-party sites (press articles, social media, donation platform). This policy does not apply to those sites, and we encourage you to review their own terms.

11. Changes

We may amend this policy. Any new version will be published on this page, together with its date of update.
